At the end of April, UFAC team members Dan Day, Mark Townsend and Aage Staun travelled to Denmark to visit dairy farms and meet with the 3S Group.

The visit provided an opportunity to spend time on farm with producers and feed advisors, gaining a clearer understanding of how different systems approach feeding, performance and consistency.

Across the farms visited, several common themes emerged.

There was a strong focus on maintaining consistency through the ration, with close collaboration between farmers and feed advisors. Feeding strategies were clearly aligned with defined performance targets, with decisions made to support long-term, repeatable outcomes rather than short-term gains.

One of the farms visited is currently running a full line trial with Envirolac across a 640-cow herd. This provides a valuable opportunity to observe how the product performs at scale within a commercial system, where consistency and reliability are critical.

Alongside farm visits, time was spent with the 3S team in Fredericia, discussing strategy and how approaches to fatty acid nutrition continue to evolve across different markets.

Reflecting on the visit, one principle stood out across multiple farms.

Consistency is not left to chance.

Across different systems, there was a clear emphasis on keeping rations stable, maintaining consistent intakes and reducing variation wherever possible. The focus was not on pushing maximum output at any cost, but on building systems that deliver reliable performance day after day.

This mindset was evident not only in feeding strategy but also in overall herd management.

The visit provided a useful reminder that performance is not just about what is fed, but how consistently it is delivered and managed.

Trips like this allow UFAC to step outside the UK system, compare approaches, and bring practical insights back into everyday feeding decisions, supporting farmers, nutritionists, and feed partners with approaches that prioritise consistency, performance, and long-term results.
