Internationally recognised for an innovative approach to animal feed supplementation and manufacture, UFAC-UK recently hosted the management team from the Danish farmer purchasing group, 3S A/S, with collaboration and strengthening international relationships the theme of the visit.
The three-day trip saw tours to the Quality Equipment Factory in Suffolk; a visit to the 2000 sow indoor unit at B&S Farming; and UFAC-UK’s state of the art Woolfox Mill manufacturing facility, producing an innovative range of supplement nutrition products, distributed throughout the world to enhance livestock performance.
A visit to Nottingham University Centre for Dairy Science Innovation was led by Emeritus Professor Phil Garnsworthy, as he provided an overview of the development of the dairy unit, alongside a thought-provoking discussion on the future of nutrition, including the sustainable sourcing of ingredients, and the impacts on the farm carbon footprint.
This included a summary of his trial research evaluating the palm-free fat supplement Envirolac, explaining how the results demonstrated how the new supplement from UFAC-UK increased milk yield, and milk fat and protein concentrations, with a significantly reduced carbon footprint, when compared to a calcium soap, palm-based fat.
A stop at Massey Feeds in Cheshire showcased the technology now used in the manufacturing of animal feeds in the UK. From quality testing, mixing, to packaging and distribution, David Wilde, Massey Feeds national ruminant technical manager, explained the manufacturing process and how inclusion of UFAC-UK products play an important role in future sustainability, an issue at the forefront of Massey Feeds’ strategic direction.
“UFAC-UK’s innovative nutritional solutions are recognised both in the UK and around the world, and we are seeing huge interest from international buyers wanting to learn about how the UK industry is preparing for future sustainability,” says Robert Jones, managing director of UFAC-UK.
“As a company we encourage knowledge transfer and collaboration, and it is a pleasure to host progressive businesses, where we can work together globally to deliver solutions to a dynamic farming industry and make the difference for the global agri-food sector.”
Peter Skov Madsen, CEO of 3S A/S adds, “It is vital, in the new world of animal nutrition, we are educated on new and improved ways to increase animal performance and profitability, whilst being environmentally responsible. A great example of this is the UFAC-UK product, Envirolac. The palm-free fat supplement for high-yielding dairy cows has seen significant interest in Denmark. We look forward to working with UFAC-UK, on future product development and wider distribution.”
