New feed supplement formulation boosts cows' energy levels.UFAC press release: November, 2009A new formulation of the feed supplement, Dynalac, has been launched by Newmarket-based Ufac-UK to meet the increasing demands for energy by high-yielding dairy cows. The energy level has been significantly increased by 1.5 MJ per
kg DM to help boost milk yield, improve cow body condition and milk
quality. "Average milk yield from UK dairy cows has increased by 1,100 litres per lactation over the last 10 years. At the same time, fertility has declined, with calving interval increasing from under 400 days to 430 days," commented Ufac's Dr Donald Lawson. "Providing today's dairy cows with a diet high in energy is an important factor in reversing this decline. "Dynalac's concentrated energy will be particularly useful in balancing the low energy levels in this season's forages. Many grass silage MEs are down 10 per cent down on last year." A unique slow-release base combined with the particular blend of oils used allows maximum digestibility of Dynalac and ensures that there is no metabolic disturbance to the rumen function. Dynalac is highly cost-effective.
Field trials have shown that when fed at the typical rate of 0.4-0.6
kg per cow per day, yields increased by up to 2 litres per cow. With
an average milk price of 22p per litre and allowing for the cost of
the product, this gives a potential return of £54 per cow over
a 200-day winter, or £10,800 for a 200-cow herd.
